The Doll - it's not an ordinary name but a title defining a caste. The hierarchy. Dolls are like people - they have thoughts and passions, pride and self-esteem. They claim our attention and admiration as each of them is an individual with a unique nature, destiny and a story. Dolls like to tell stories of their lives, but sometimes we don't want to hear them. Labyrinths of their souls are whimsical and fraught with surprises.

Leo was born on the 12th of March in the foggy and warm morning, when everything around was ghostly and full of mystery. Outlines of trees, narrow side-streets and two-storeyed houses seemed to vibrate drowning in pearly ripple of fog. Now they were emerging as dark dreamy lilac blots and then they were melting away. And somewhere far away the sea was breathing, and his breath was visible in that day…

A real person Yvette Guilbert (1867-1944), actress and singer, inspired
me to make my Beauty Eve, my all-night cabaret star and puppet show prima
donna.
Not even Yvette but her portraits by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec - a little
man but a great painter, whose paintings smell dust of coulisses, fresh
linen and a morning window.

Orloida's story is rather sorrowful. No one knows where and under what circumstances Orloida has become a vampire, even she has forgotten a date of her death. If blood is life, life is eternity full of longing to see a sun-ray again … But what can you do if an image of the Sun has already melted away from your mind? You can forget about bright clothing, and look at the life with melancholic disdain, you can prefer recherche beauty to natural simplicity and deep unhurried meditation to pointless talks.

Django was born on the 12th of November in a creaky kibitka just among vast moors. Moor is his mother, Sky is his father and Wind - brother. He can sing to accompaniment of heather-bells, put out a candle using a whip and defend horses from evil eye. For his fervent temper he was nicknamed - Jagg, that means fire.

She is very good at art of refined delusion and society manners, and at the same time she is not a shallow coquette but a clever and well-educated lady. She is interested in works by Rene Descartes and mathematics. Now she is absolutely happy and calm - her twin brother Richard, they are as like as two peas in a pod, departed for St.-Petersburg, thank God. He is an adventurer and a poet or, rather, a librettist and Elisabeth's main problem.

Orangaya is a Minotaur-woman. She was born many centuries ago with Red Desert and their parents were Red Sun and Yellow Moon. Sun gave force to Orangaya and Moon gave her rapidity and ability to whirl up red sand of Desert like ocean waves. Minotaur-woman is a ruler of sand-storms, she likes to act not to think. Warlocks try to use her power.

Eric and Gella are vagrant musicians. They are a brother and a sister and were born in a family of vagrant circus artistes. They had wandered around towns and cities playing and singing but then left their family and troupe. And now they live on their own.

Cathy was born on the 28th of July, 1765. She was a wayward, petulant fatalist and drove herself crazy. She had wanted to have the whole world in her arms, but got only a large fortune.
No one knows when Heathcliff was born. He was said to be "hard as a whin-stone and sharp as a saw".

was born on the 24th of December.
